Alvyn Webster Moore, 88 of Union, Mississippi passed away August 29, 2017 at J G Alexander Nursing Home in Union. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2nd at First Baptist Church of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery. Open visitation will also be at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Eaton Moore; parents Roy and Ruby Moore; two brothers Fred and Norris Moore and two sisters Grace Moore Murphree, Jewell Moore Harper and nephew Duaine Moore.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Moore (Lynn) of Houston, TX and Gary Moore of Ruston, LA; and a daughter Joyce Moore Holifield (Mike) of Union, MS; four grandchildren, Haley Moore of Houston, TX, Garrett Moore of Vicksburg, MS, Sam Moore of Union, MS and Tori McElhenney of Starkville, MS; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews from the Moore and Eaton families too numerous to name; and many special friends including Dean Russell of Union and Bob Johnson of North Carolina.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Garrett and Sam Moore; nephews Tommy Norris and John Moore; great nephews David, Jeff and Dan Moore, and Robert Carleton; and son-in-law Mike Holifield. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wall Sunday School Class, Union Lions Club and nephews Gayden Harper and Bill Murphree. Dr. Jon Martin, Dr. Marcus Finch and Rev. Byron Howell will officiate.
Mr. Moore was a long time resident of Union and member of the First Baptist Church. He was faithful and devoted Christian, an ordained Baptist minister and deacon and served as minister of music in over 10 Baptist churches including First Baptist Philadelphia, First Baptist Union, Neshoba Baptist, Pinckney and Beulah Hubbard. He also served at Shandon Baptist Church of Columbia, SC and First Baptist of Vicksburg, MS. He worked for Philadelphia agency of Southern Farm Bureau beginning in 1987 until his retirement.
He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Mississippi Southern College in 1952 and a Masters in Sacred Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was born October 28, 1928 in the Crossroads community near Pelahatchie, MS in Rankin County.
