Anita Aust Goodwin, 78, of DeKalb, Miss. passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, with her husband by her side at The Hospice of West Alabama. She was born on March 1, 1939, in Panola, Ala. to Margaret Aust Stennis and Marvin Aust. Anita graduated from Scooba High School. She married Donald G. Goodwin on Sept. 1, 1957, and they raised their family in Louisville, Miss. before relocating to DeKalb after retirement.
Anita was beautiful, funny, opinionated, and an incredible wife of sixty years. She was very passionate about her family, friends, and loved nothing greater than time with her grandsons. The fabulous Anita was loved for her wit, humor, and warm hospitality. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, dancing, fishing, and playing the piano.
Anita is preceded in death by her son, Douglas H. Goodwin, and stepfather, James H. Stennis. She is survived by her husband, Don; daughters, Debbie Richardson of Starkville, Miss., Beverly Goodwin of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and brother, Bubba Aust of DeKalb, Miss. She is also survived by four grandsons; Adam Richardson, Will and Jake Goodwin, Taylor Goodwin Silva and one great-grandson, Mason Richardson.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville, Miss., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105), Shriner's Children's Hospital (Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607) or any charity of your choice.
