Annie Marie's Story

Annie Marie Ramia Hiatt Hodge, age 92, of Leeds, Alabama, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 15, 2017, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was a pillar of unconditional love and support for her family throughout her life. Everyone was a welcomed guest at her table. Visitors often left with a bucket of her wonderful chocolate chip cookies or some other homemade sweet treat to take home. Her beautiful smile and vitality for life will be missed by all she touched. The Meridian, Mississippi native was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Inez Ramia, one sister, Roselie Perryman, and three brothers, John Ramia, Louis Ramia, and George Ramia. She retired from Amsouth Bank, now Regions. She was an active member of Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Trussville, Alabama. She also enjoyed socializing with her friends in the Rosary Makers Club, Ladies Sodality, Cahaba Valley Garden Club, and Bible Study. We are sure Angel Annie is watching over us today.She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Rex Hiatt, and is survived by her husband of nearly 9 years, Francis Eugene Hodge (Gene). She devoted her life to her family. She is survived by her five children Rex Hiatt (Brenda), Bill Hiatt (Janet), Judy Atchison (Richard), Sandra McKell (Mickey), and Joe Hiatt (Susie). She was MawMaw to her 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren with Rex and Granny Annie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren with Gene. She was Aunt Nanny to numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother, Bill Ramia, of Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation is Friday, October 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m. followed by rosary at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church at 8090 Gadsden Hwy in Trussville, Alabama 35173. There will be an additional visitation at the church on Saturday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., and then lunch. Burial will take place afterward at Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 Hwy 78 E in Birmingham.Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Anthony Hiatt, Brian Atchison, Joey Hiatt, Steve Atchison, Matthew Hiatt, Daniel Atchison, Michael McKell, and John Hiatt. Her granddaughter, Allyson McKell, will speak at the service. Memorials can be made to Holy Infant of Prague Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
