Mr. Maggard, age 77, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Diversicare of Meridian.
Charles, better known as Charlie, joined Meridian Lodge #1628 in July 1984 and began taking an active role while working offshore for Exxon Oil Company. He joined Magnolia Moose Legion in April 1987 and was awarded the Fellowship Degree of Honor in July of 1997. Charlie served in most elected and appointed positions of Meridian Lodge and went on to serve the Mississippi Moose Association in their chairs and was elected President in 2002-2003. He also served the Magnolia Moose Legion in various leadership offices and attained the Elite Ring in May of 1997. He sponsored 441 members into the Moose Legion. He served as Moose Legion Ambassador in 2003-2004. For his dedication to the Moose Legion, he was a contender for the Legionnaire of the Year at the Moose International Convention. He has many plaques honoring his service to the Moose.
Charlie sponsored 140 members into the fraternity and was called to the House of God on the Mooseheart campus to receive the pilgrim degree of Merit on May 24, 2003 for his dedication to the Moose Fraternity.
After retiring from Exxon, Charlie could be found making needed repairs at Meridian Lodge with his expertise in plumbing and electrical. He donated his time freely to make the lodge much better. He has traveled throughout the state to various Moose functions and enjoyed the fellowships he found with brothers and coworkers from not only Mississippi, but throughout the fraternity. He truly believed that one should do some good thing for someone each day, the Moose Legion motto. Not only did he do repairs at the lodge, but would help friends and brothers with their needs at their homes. He loved to cook and shared great camping experiences with his friends.
Charlie also was a member of Hamasa Shriner, 32nd degree. He will long be remembered for his kind words and thoughtful actions.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Donna Knotts Maggard; sister-in-law, Addie Pete Maggard, several nieces and nephews.
