Curtis Michael Reese, 58, passed away peacefully at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS on April 28, 2017 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Marlene (Schrimpshire) Reese and Curtis Lavon Reese. He is survived by his life partner of 37 years, Steve Patrick, and their rescue dogs Harley, Rose, Pennie, and Lucky; sister Beverly (Joe) Adams of Poplarville, MS; brother Terry (Samantha) Reese of Quitman, MS; close friend Vernon McCardle of Coppell, TX; and several loving relatives in the Clarke & Scott County area. Curtis graduated from Quitman High School and earned a music scholarship to Northeast Junior College in Booneville, MS. He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Ole Miss at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Curtis worked most of his career as an ER Nurse in Atlanta, GA as well as working with his partner Steve in commercial real estate at Blue Ridge Capital. Curtis was a past volunteer member of the National Disaster Medical Assistance Team and worked for several weeks at the World Trade Center site in New York during the aftermath of 911 caring for the first responders and other medical staff injured in the recovery efforts. He also volunteered for several weeks in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, as well as many other natural disasters that occurred in the southeastern U.S.
Curtis enjoyed traveling, especially ocean cruises having adventured on over 20 such trips to many countries around the world. He enjoyed spending hours with his dogs at the family home place out in the country in Clarke County. Curtis supported no kill animal rescue shelters and would want everyone to support any such organization in their community. He greatly admired the work performed by Atlanta Pet Rescue in Atlanta, GA and Dearborn Animal Hospital in Decatur, GA.
Close family held a private remembrance in his honor. His kind-hearted caring spirit and witty sense of humor will be missed but forever remembered by his friends and family.
