Mr. Strickland, 74, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Strickland honorably served his country in the Navy. Having received numerous awards and certificates for his service, he retired from full time duty after 22 years. Following his retirement, he was a loyal civil servant for over 27 years at NAS Meridian serving as a legal officer. He was honored with numerous awards and certificates for his service, even receiving an appreciation letter, from former President Obama for his service. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Mae, outside. He was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Poppa Curt."
Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mae Strickland; children, Rita Doherty (Hank), Mike Johnston (Lisa), Vicky Henry (Jimmy), and Margaret Fechener. Grandchildren, Katie Anderson (Jeff), Adam Doherty, Michael Johnston (Margaret), Hailey Johnston, Patrick Henry (Lindsay), April Miller (Dustin), Shelby Henry (Josh), Matthew Fechener, and Jason Dillon as well as six great grandchildren. Sister, Norma Clayton, brother in law, James Lowe as well a numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Strickland is preceded in death by his parents as well as several siblings.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Veterans Appreciation Committee at P.O. Box 51 Bailey, MS 39322.
