Donald's Story

Donald Joseph Souligny, 85, formally of Watseka, lL passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home in Meridian, Miss. Born October 24, 1931 in Hammond, lN, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Olive Souligny. He attended Purdue University regional campus for several semesters before enlisting in the Navy at the end of the Korean War where he was able to put to use his interest in photography as a photogrammetric technician. Stationed in London, due to a mix-up in his orders, he met and married his wife of 53 years Josephine Carr, who proceeded him in death. He finished his business degree at Indiana University and after moving around the country during his career, he settled in Meridian and retired from UARCO Business Forms after 34 years. Don was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Second only to his church and family was his love of music, particularly classical. Don also enjoyed bird watching, classic cars and model ship building. Surviving are his children Ann (Randy) Brown of Fort Wayne, EN; Carol (Arnold) Germann of Gurnee, EL; Susan ( Rick) Grum of Wadsworth, IL; Norma (Mark) Clover of Watseka, IL; and Paul Souligny of Lauderdale, Miss; eleven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Eugene, and sister, Dorothy. As a last selfless act, Don donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for research. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the St. Patrick's Catholic School scholarship fund (2501 Davis Street, Meridian, MS 39301)
