Dr. Mitchell's Story
Dr. Mitchell A. Lee was born October 21, 1965 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Ulysses C. and Leila M. Lee. He passed away at home on March 25, 2017, in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Lee was a 1983 graduate of Meridian High School. On August 10, 1983 Mitchell enlisted in the United States Army where he served our Nation for 22 years. During his career as a professional soldier, Mitchell served in various assignments defending and honoring. He was presented numerous awards and decorations including; the Army Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, plus many more. Dr. Lee retired from the Army December 2005 and became a Department of the Civilian.
Education was extremely important to Mitchell. He completed the Civilian Education System Advanced Course for government employees well in advance of his peers. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in German Studies. He received a MBA degree from University of Phoenix and was completing a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership.
Dr. Mitchell A. Lee enjoyed serving at his church (Shearer Baptist), reading, scuba diving, horseback riding, traveling, collecting guns, and watches.
Dr. Lee is survived by three children, a daughter Octavia Lee of Florida and two sons Mitchell and Julian Kalkenings of Germany; two sisters, Dr. Kimberly Reynolds (Kenneth) of Georgia, LeVisha Lee of Mississippi, one brother Major Lee (Chelsa) of Meridian, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Service for Mitchell A. Lee will be held at 11 a.m. on April 10, 2017 at North Park Church with Pastor Benn Stears officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 4-5 p.m. at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
