Dwight Jenkins

July 19, 1936 - December 20, 2018

Dwight Jenkins Dwight L. Jenkins of the Spring Creek community in Philadelphia departed this earthly realm Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and now resides in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 82.
A 1955 graduate of Longino High School, Dwight joined the Army shortly after graduation, attending basic training at Fort Polk, La., and assignments to Fort Devens, Md., and Ankara, Turkey. Upon discharge, he and his family moved to Leland/Greenville, Miss. where he worked as a route salesman. In 1966, the family moved to Meridian where he continued working as a salesman. Later he was an auto mechanic before becoming a full-time technician with the Mississippi Air National Guard's 238th Combat Communication Squadron. He spent 23 years in the Air Guard, retiring in 1996 as a Senior Master Sgt.
Outside affiliations included being a deacon, a member of the Hamasa Shrine Temple, a driver for children seen at the Shriners Children's Hospital Texas Burn Unit, serving as an aide to several Shrine Potentates, and meeting with the "old timers" at Bobby's Grocery on Highway 16 East, Philadelphia.
Dwight is survived by his wife Carroll; son, Bob Jenkins (Cheri), Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Terry Anderson, Pearl, Miss.; stepdaughters, Donna Maloney (Jerry), Meridian, Miss., Terry Fortenberry (Lee), Philadelphia, Miss., Deda Moore (Chris), Meridian, Miss., and Nancy Cox (Jimmy), Philadelphia, Miss.; brother, Jack Jenkins (Joan), Keene, Texas; and sister, Judy Nicholas (Jimmy), Vicksburg, Miss. He had nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents J.L. and Mae Jenkins.
A private family graveside farewell at Spring Creek Cemetery will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date. Remembrance donations can be made in his name to the Shriners' Children's Hospitals, The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and/or The American Cancer Society.
