Funeral services for Ed Smith will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 12:00 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Bro. Wayne Edwards and Dr. Greg Massey officiating. Burial will be at Mount Sterling Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler, AL.
Mr. Ed Smith age, 69, of Meridian passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at UAB Hospital.
Ed served four years in the Air Force and retired after 28 years as the grounds superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of Meridian. He took great pride in his work. He served on the board for Lauderdale County Forestry Association as well as past president. Ed was a faithful Christian and devoted member of Highland Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to his family.
Survivors includes his wife of 35 years Jamie Smith; children, Haley Monroe (Jason) of Daphne, AL and Blake Smith (Emily) of Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Maddie and Cale Monroe of Daphne, AL; brother, Julian "Buddy" Smith of Butler, AL; sister, May Avgoustis (Stan) of Oceanside, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Hazel Smith; father-in-law, James "Buddy" Wright and sister-in-law, Paula Rippie.
Pallbearers will be Fred Rush, Jr., Adam Rippie, Johnny Rupert, Jr., Ken Richardson, Mark Naylor, Rob Wilder, Tyler Overby and Michael Blanks.

Was truly sorry hear about Mr Ed. He was a very kind and thoughtful Man. I know he loved his Family very much. Jamie and Family y’all have my sincere sympathies and prayers

Kathy, Justin and I were saddened to hear about Eddie. He was always a great neighbor, classmate and friend. His humor, laughter and smiles will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
