Mr. Fears, age 83, of Collinsville, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Fears was known by friends and family members as Buddy and Fears, but was always called Gooch by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fears loved his family and especially enjoyed special family gatherings, celebrations, and vacations. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time with his son at his fishing camp on the Tombigbee River. After retirement, he settled into a country life of gardening with his daughter and enjoying nature from his favorite rocker on his back porch. He was a die-hard Ole Miss fan, and especially enjoyed watching the Rebels on the football field. He retired from the 186th Mississippi Air National Guard as Chief Master Sergeant after 43 years of service. Mr. Fears was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. The family would like to express appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Anderson Regional Medical Center for the love, care, and support they showed to him over the past couple of weeks.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jessalyn Fairchild Fears; children, Rusty Fears (Karen) of Meridian, and Robyn Hancock (Glenn) of Collinsville; grandchildren, Cassie Brentnall (Mark), Kalen Mayatt (Shayne), and Rus Fears; great-grandchildren, Rylan and Bailey Brooke Mayatt and Hayden Brentnall; special sisters-in-law, Jane Denton, Barbara Hamilton, and Dannette Walley (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Francis Fears; and his sister, Mary Katherine Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Dan Denton, David Denton, Joe Denton, Timmy Hamilton, Tony Hamilton, Drew Spears, Eddie Spears, and Wade Spears.
