Mr. Spence, 76, of Meridian, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, in his home. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that he is at peace with our Lord after a long battle with cancer. Harold stated many times that he knew when he closed his eyes on earth, they would be opened to see Jesus.
Harold was born July 20, 1942, in Suqualena, Miss. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1960. He retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad in 2002 after over 39 years of employment with the rail system, which included Gulf Mobile, Illinois Central Gulf, and MidSouth Rail. Harold served in the Air National Guard for over 10 years. He was a very active member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir. He loved to have fun playing golf with his friends, woodworking, spending time with his family, and RV traveling with Linda and his friends.
Survivors include his wife Linda Spence; his daughter, Jeannea Spence; two bonus daughters, Melisa Montgomery and Heather Riddle; a grandson, Braxton Spence and a bonus grandson, Zach Riddle; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Blakeney (Betty) and Mitchell Blakeney. He also leaves his brother, Willie Spence (Hazel); two sisters, Patsy McCarter (Kenneth) and Sara Beeman (Larry), and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his first wife and mother of his children, Hermajean Bolton Spence, his parents, Eli W. and Emma Welborn Spence, his son Steven W Spence, his brother Everette Spence, and sister Sandra Spence Goss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church's Ministry of Caring, or for Jay and Cortney Nelson's Dominic Republic Ministry.
