Funeral Services for Mr. John W. Burnett will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kyle Naylor officiating. Music for the Service will be provided by Bro. Gary Dover. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors; Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burnett, 81, of Meridian passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at Bedford Care Center of Marion.
Mr. John was a member of the American Legion Post #125 and Vorture 989 40/8. He retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served numerous ships, some of which were the USS Wood, USS Randolph, USS Wren, USS Huse, just to mention a few. He most enjoyed sailing around the world while in the Navy which took exactly one year, two months and two days. He also was in port during the Vietnam Conflict. John also enjoyed woodworking and was a very talented craftsman. He loved spending time outside and enjoying his friends (which he considered his family) and family. John was also a member of FBC Marion where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Burnett is survived by his wife of 54 years Lynda, two grandsons, Matthew Blackwell and Phillip Blackwell. Sister in law Hattie Bell Harrison; nephew Edwin Harrison (Linda) as well as several other nieces and nephews and Special friends, Edward Eddie and Clarice Wright.
John is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Blackwell and his parents Otis and Eugenia Burnett. One brother, Calvin Burnett and one sister, Gloria Burnett.
