Kenard Wayne's Story
Services for Kenard Wayne Turner will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Pine Grove Church in the Martin Community, with the Rev. Tommy Espey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Turner, 80, of Chunky, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Anderson Regional Medical Center after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was an ordained minister 51 years, serving in several churches in the area.
Mr. Turner retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation as a highway supervisor after 42 years of service. He also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard, was a published author of several books, an avid history buff, knife maker and outdoorsman.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Dolly Littrell Turner; daughters, Tammy Herrington and husband Hal, Debbie Hall-Gretka and husband Rod, Amanda Sharp and husband Brian; son, John Peebles and wife Brandi; grandchildren, Kim Vick and husband Kyle, Bobby Hall and wife Ginger, Dylan Sharp, Eli Sharp, Adisyn Sharp, Elisa Holcomb and husband David, Kaylee Peebles and Jake Peebles.
Mr. Turner is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Josh Randall, Deakon Vick, Mary Margret Hall and Olivia Hall.
Visitation will be from one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Mr. Turner's honor to Gideons International or the local Gideons camps, P.O. Box 708, Meridian, MS 39301.
