Maggie Jemison

Maggie Lee Scarbrough Jemison was born on June 22, 1919, in Greene County, Ala. to the late Rufus and Annie Rice Scarbrough. On Aug. 3, 2019, Maggie would enter into eternal rest.
Maggie was baptized into Christ in the late 1940's. On Oct. 14, 1939, Maggie and Edgar united in holy matrimony. Their union produced two children, Herbert and Madge. They moved from Aliceville, Ala. to Meridian, Miss. in 1954. Maggie lived in
Meridian for 36 years and considered it home. She moved to California in the early 1990's after her husband of 48 years, Edgar, passed away. She was a homemaker and raised her children and granddaughter, Jynnifer Walker. She was fondly referred to as "Madea".
Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; parents; her twelve brothers and
sisters, and daughter-in-law.
She leaves precious memories to her son, Herbert Jemison of Flint, Mich.; daughter Madge Mitchell (Wayne) of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 19-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

I am saddened by Madea's passing. I have known her to be a beautiful and caring person all of my life. I grew up under her watchful eye and have taken to heart much advice from her throughout the years. She loved and cared for many throughout the years and was likewise cherished by many more everywhere she went. She will be missed but her words and memory are eternal in our hearts. My sincere condolences to all of her family.
