Visitation for Mary Carmen Britt will be held Thursday, May 5th, from 9:30 A. M. to 11:00 A. M. at Memory Chapel in Laurel, Mississippi. Graveside services will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian, Mississippi, at 1:30 P. M.
Mrs. Britt, 92, of Laurel died Monday, May 02, 2016, at South Central Medical Center in Laurel. She was the wife of the late Billy Joe Britt. A native of Meridian, Mrs. Britt was the daughter of Johnny L. Jones and Carmen Jones Shortridge and the step-daughter of William Webb Shortridge. Her maternal grandparents were Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Houston of Meridian.
Mrs. Britt was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Laurel. While a member at the First Methodist Church she was an active member of the Jubilee Singers that performed at various charitable functions across the southeast. Mrs. Britt was an avid contract bridge player and greatly enjoyed the strategy of the game, making new friends that had the same passion for the game as she did.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Joe Britt, Jr. and Harry Webb Britt and two daughters, Linda Carmen Gray of Meridian and Mary Betty Britt of Atlanta. Mrs. Britt had ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, great grandsons and husbands of grand daughters: Robert Britt, Austin Britt, David Britt, Dustin Gray, Andrew Hardy and Jimmy Hill.
