Michael L. McWhirter, Sr.


Funeral services for Mr. Michael McWhirter, Sr. will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McWhirter, age 77, of Collinsville passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. McWhirter served in the United States Navy, on the U.S.S. Everglades. Throughout the years, he owned Bestway Appliance Repair, worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he worked as the General Foreman, and was transferred to NAS Meridian due to the Charleston Shipyard closing, where he worked as an HVAC man, working his way up from the bottom to General Foreman in one year's time.
Mr. McWhirter was the past Grand Master for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for the state of South Carolina. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie McWhirter; Children, Kobi McWhirter, Michael L. McWhirter, Jr., and Nikolas McWhirter; grandsons, Parker Lee McWhirter, Noah Reed McWhirter, Kasey Reed McWhirter, and Bradley Reed McWhirter; sister, Barbara Shelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anita Brooks.
Pallbearers will be Parker McWhirter, Noah McWhirter, Kasey McWhirter, Dallas Decker, Ray Hendrix, and Buddy Sturm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
