Mildred Brown Scott


Funeral services for Mildred Brown Scott will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Butler, Ala., Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Lane and grandson, the Rev. Michael Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Arrangements by Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler.
Mrs. Scott, 99, formerly a long-time resident of Butler, Ala., and who has resided in Meridian for the past 13 years, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at the Poplar Springs Nursing Center.
Mrs. Scott was born in Yantley, Ala. on April 5, 1919, to Fred C. and Myra Garrison Brown. She was married for 70 years to James B. (Jim) Scott who was deceased in 2009 at the age of 101 years and was a homemaker and mother of six children. She was such a warm, loving individual who spent her life helping others, especially children. Her caring spirit will never be forgotten! She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those she touched.
She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Butler and the Ruth Evans Sunday School Class. Since 2015, Mrs. Scott resided at Poplar Springs Nursing Center and enjoyed the friends she made, helping other residents and the activities that kept her busy each day. Appreciation goes to the Nursing Center staff and other in-home caregivers for the loving, professional care that was provided.
Survivors include three sons, James K. Scott, Livingston, Ala., Don B. Scott, Meridian, Miss., Richard L. Scott (Peggy), Linden, Ala.; three daughters, Mary Ella Bateman (Haskell), Meridian, Miss., Judith S. Johnston (Dr. Jim), Knoxville, Tenn., and Rebecca S. McKenzie (Ronnie), Pennington, Ala. Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Julia Combs, Lavaca, Ala.
Pallbearers are grandsons Scott Charlton, David Scott, Alan Scott, Chris Scott, Wesley Scott, Richard Scott and Patrick James. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Ruth Evans Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church of Butler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ruth Evans Sunday School Class or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
