Norman J. Schexnaydre, 77, of Clinton, Massachusetts, formerly of Slidell, Louisiana and Quitman, Mississippi, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Oakdale Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center, West Boylston, Massachusetts, following an illness.
He leaves his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Garner) Schexnaydre, with whom he would have celebrated 52 years of marriage in March; a son, Michael J. Schexnaydre and his wife, Rebecca, and two grandchildren, Emily and Joseph, of Lancaster, Massachusetts, whom he adored. He also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews as well as a host of longtime friends. He was predeceased by one brother, James, Jr., and two sisters, Blanche Carroll and Rose Mire.
Norman was born in New Orleans and raised in Slidell, the son of James and Normel (Sullivan) Schexnaydre. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Slidell High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving for four years as a Jet Engine Specialist Mechanic.
Norman worked as a Technician for Bell South for 26 years, retiring in 1997. A highly skilled mechanic, he worked for Chrysler Corporation on the NASA Saturn/Apollo project at their Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed most anything mechanical and would often buy broken equipment for yet another repair project. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and above all, spending time in the company of his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be in Meridian, Mississippi at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 7774 Hwy 39 North, on January 13th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. There are no calling hours.
