The family of Mrs. Ramona Gehman will be holding a memorial service after the holidays. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Gehman, age 87, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, December 17, at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Ramona is remembered for her career as a physical therapist at Andersons Hospital, being an active member of First Baptist and Grace Fellowship Baptist churches and bowling in leagues for many years.
Born Ramona Gladys Mickelborough, May 20, 1930 in Freeport Texas, she grew up in the small company town of Port Sulphur, Louisiana where her father worked for the Freeport Sulphur Company.
She was the first member of her family to attend college earning a BA from Louisiana College in 1951.
In 1952 she joined the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant serving as a Physical Therapist at Maxwell Air Force Base.
Upon being discharged in 1954 she married Samuel Robert Bob Gehman.
The young couple moved to Lima, Peru where they treated children with polio for two years.
They then moved to Warm Springs, Georgia where they worked at the rehabilitation center made famous by President Roosevelt.
In the early 60s they lived in New Orleans where Bob was the Chief Therapist at Oschner Hospital.
In 1967 the family moved to Meridian, where Bob headed the physical therapy department at Andersons Hospital.
She is survived by her two brothers Gene (Linda) & Wayne (Martha) Mickelborough; and her three sons, Michael, Jeff, and Andy Gehman and wives Kristina Mathis & Ann Hajek.
Ramona is preceded in death by her husband, Bob and her parents, Clarence. Genema Mickelborough.
