Mr. Temple passed away Monday, September 11, 2017, at Poplar Springs Nursing Center at the age of 93. His family was blessed to have been able to gather around him the two days preceding his death and he is having a joyful reunion in heaven with those who preceded him. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Janis Williamson Temple; children, Terrell Temple (Sandy), Jeanette Stewart, Janet Pinkham (Bobby) and Rhonda Boutwell (Bob) all of Meridian; grandchildren, Brian Temple, Kelly Temple Crocker, Daniel, Adam and Glenn Stewart, Greg and Tim Pinkham and Brent Boutwell; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter F. and Fannie Gunn Temple; sister Anita Chisolm; brothers Vernon, Charlie and Cecil; and son-in-law Allan W. Stewart. Pop loved his family and especially the family gatherings. He enjoyed working in his garden and sharing vegetables with family and friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater during World War II. He served as manager of Miner Edger Works for 25 years. He was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Until recently, he enjoyed visiting with "the old people."
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Poplar Springs Nursing Center for their compassionate care of Pop. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for memorials to be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home prior to services. Friends may sign the online register at www.stephensfunerals.com.
