Memorial service for Raymond Howard Hill will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrichk Catholic Church in Meridian. Interment will be at Mississippi Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, in Newton, followed by a repast at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Meridian, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to St. Patrick Catholic School.
Raymond Howard Hill, beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born on January 13, 1950 to the late Ray Hill and Marcelene (Palmer) Hill in Meridian, Mississippi. He transitioned on Monday, September 11, 2017.
Howard received his early education at St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from T. J. Harris High School both in Meridian. He continued his education at Meridian Junior College and Jackson State University, in Jackson, MS. He married Johnnie Mae Mosley on January 25, 1974. Three daughters were born to their union: Tianna, Amy, and Michelle.
Howard enlisted in the Army in 1975 and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1995 after twenty years of service. During his career he held various job duties as a logistical specialist. He and his family experienced the world as he served in posts at Fort Campbell in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama; Karlsruhe Germany, Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, Illinois, North Korea; Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, and Fort Polk in Alexandria, Louisiana. Following his military service, he returned to Meridian and worked for various contractors at the Naval Air Station including Boeing and L-3 Communications.
He was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as an altar boy in his youth. Upon his return to Meridian in retirement from the army, he served the Catholic Community of Meridian as a Knight of Columbus, a Knight of Peter Claver, and a member of the Parish Council. He also volunteered with the youth and also served on the advisory board of St. Patrick's School.
He is survived by his wife, Jonnie; daughters Tianna Raby (Malcolm), Amy Pinkston (Timothy) and Michelle Simon (Christopher). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordyn and Timothy Pinkston, Camron and Christopher Simon, and Ava Raby, a brother, Hubert Hill (Ann); a great-uncle, Jessie Palmer (Lula), and a host of relatives, godchildren, and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry Hill (Edith), and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
