Rita Ann Mitchell Williamson, age 79, of Rome, Ga., died Sept. 11, 2017, at a Rome area hospital. She is the daughter of the late Ronald Edward Mitchell and Cornelia Thomas Mitchell, of Meridian, Miss.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 51 years, Don Williamson, Jr., in 2010. She is survived by her children, Michael Williamson (Stan), of Seattle, and Michelle Wilson (Daniel), of Rome; a grandson, Danny "Tad" Wilson, of Rome; and a brother, Ronnie Mitchell (Bobbie), of Blue Ridge, Ga.; and her cat, Sassy.
Born Feb. 8, 1938, in Meridian, Rita graduated from Meridian High School in 1956 and from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., in 1960. She taught Spanish classes while living in Mississippi, Virginia and Florida. Upon her family moving to the Atlanta area in the mid-1970s, Rita became a full-time homemaker.
There will be a memorial service for Rita at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, in Rome. She will be interred next to her husband at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are requested to make donations in Rita's memory to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, AID Atlanta or the NABA Club in Atlanta.
