Gene was born Feb. 3, 1933, at home in Meridian to the late Robert (Bob) and Sarah Fisher. After 30+ years employment working at the GM&O and Southern railroads, he retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a Carman and derrick engineer in 1996. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War which ended while he was in boot camp. He went on to faithfully serve his country during his time of service and instilled into his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren his deep love and devotion to God and country. He was a faithful lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he often expressed his faith through song. Often accompanied on piano by his late wife, Sara, he ministered to many through his gift of singing. He also devoted his life to living out his faith in Jesus Christ as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
Pallbearers will be nephews Gavin, Dwayne, Ronald, and Randy Fisher, Perry Mitchell, and Jeff Jenkins, as well as Taylor Fisher, Hayes Patrick, and Trey Romero. Honorary pallbearers will be Josiah, Luke, and Nathan Patrick, and Howard Brannan, Gene's faithful neighbor, and friend.
