Funeral Services for Mr. Ronald Gary Ryan, Sr. will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 in the Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Jody Pittman and Ed Tatum officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ryan, 80, of Lauderdale passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Rush Foundation Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Ronald was retired from the U.S. Navy and was also employed with Meridian Public Schools for many years. He was also employed with the Rock House Trading Post; where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of firearms. Mr. Ryan was an avid gun enthusiast. He was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the Gateway Church in Lauderdale as well as a member of the Gideon's International. He was a 32nd Degree York Rite Mason, a member Lions Club, DAV and the NRA.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Zoe E. Ryan, Children George (Jonnie) Benefield, Susan (Steve) Belden, James (Marla) Benefield, R. Gary Ryan, Jr., Leah (John) Shearon, Jubal Ryan, Tim Ryan, and Cassie "Tinker" (Michael) Wright. 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. One brother, Peter (Gina) Ryan and one sister, Emily Brummett as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Michael O'Shea Ryan, parents, Alba and Gela Ryan. One brother, Henry Ryan and one sister, Melody Dowdy.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Knight, Adam Wright, J.B. Benefield, William Hodge, Pete Ryan, and Josh Ryan. Honorary pallbearers will be John Geeslin, Billy Webb, Don Wilburn, Aubry Wood, Ed Stallings, Billy Robinson, Don Wedgeworth, and Johnny Gowdy.
