Terry Van Cross Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. Terry Cross will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Pastors Billy Warsaw, David Sellers and Derrick Wilson officiating. Burial will be held at Collinsville First Baptist Church cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Cross, age 87, was born in Meridian on December 24, 1929, and passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cross enlisted in the USAF ANG in 1948 and graduated from Collinsville High School in 1949. He retired from the ANG as a Master Sergeant in 1973. He holds an Associate Degree in Business from MJC.
In 1969 Mr. Cross founded Cross Roofing, Inc. from which he retired in 1997. He was a charter member of State Boulevard Baptist Church (now Faith Baptist), where he served many years as a deacon. He will be remembered for his tireless work in missions beginning in 1967 when he traveled to Kenai, Alaska to rebuild churches destroyed in the historic flood. Mr. Cross co-founded Builders for Christ, worked with Campers on Mission, and served as the construction coordinator for the Mississippi Baptist Association. In addition, he served his community as a member of the Meridian Chapter of Civitan International and chartered the Meridian Chapter of Lady Civitan. He was appointed to the City of Meridian Civil Service Board and served as a Commissioner on that board many years.
Mr. Cross is survived by three daughters, Niki (Ricky) Fields of Livingston, AL; Belinda Cross of Los Angeles, CA; Cindy (Robert) Hamilton of Meridian; four grandchildren, Teran (Diana) Phillips of Tulsa, OK; Benet White of Jackson, MS; Hannah (Ari) Kaplan of Los Angeles, CA; Jamie Denson of Meridian; two step-grandchildren, Denise (Greg) Hough of Odessa, TX; Angela (David) Vaughan of Ocean Springs, MS; four sisters, Doris Cross of Crystal Lake, IL; Frances (Bobby) Scitz of Meridian; Sharon (Richard) Gibson of Meridian; Karla (Charles) Graham of Brandon, MS; two sisters-in-law, Faye (Dan) Houston of Collinsville, MS; Frances Cross of Long Beach, MS; five great grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Delphy Lynn Roberts Cross; grandson Justin Terrell Winfield; parents, Eula Mae Meyer and Willie Joe Cross; step-father, Mattimore Meyer; step-mother, Gertrude Cross; brothers, Billie Joe Cross and Donald Cross; brothers-in-law, Tate Roberts and Johnnie Smith, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Roberts Smith and Nonie Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Roberts, Joe Williams, Ronnie Smith, Nathan Harding, Mike Brown and Al Yochim. Honorary pallbearers: Buddy Massey, Paul Cummins, Joey Cross, Randy Keeley and Jed Lane.
