Funeral services for Thomas G. Hayden will be held Saturday June 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, 6300 Hwy 39 North, Meridian, MS 39305 with Reverend Tom Belcher officiating. The family will be at the funeral home 45 minutes prior to the service to receive visitors. Burial will be at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tom Hayden of Meridian, MS passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 22, 2018 at Bedford Care Center in Marion. He was 89.
Tom was born in Meridian to Sexton and Ruth Ready Hayden. Joining the Navy at age 17 he served during WW II, and in Korea and Viet Nam before retiring with 22 years of service. He also subsequently retired from the Lauderdale County Sheriff Department serving as a court bailiff, and from the Mississippi State Hospital managing patient security.
Tom was proud of his military service and stayed active with the alumni of two of the ships on which he served; the USS Waldron (DD-699) and the USS Charles H. Roan (DD-853). He loved his friends & family, Sunday school, his pets, a good joke, and a cold beer. Few who met him would forget him.
Tom is survived by his best friend and longtime companion Rachel Nester; his niece Terri Farmer and her family of Douglasville, GA; and his two daughters Carol Hayden Thompson of Bonney Lake, WA and Wendie Hayden Wu of San Francisco, CA and their families.
