Funeral services for William Burr Buddy Booker will be held at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Rhett Payne, III officiating. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Booker, age 80, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Diversicare of Meridian.
Mr. Booker is survived by one son, William Brian Booker of Pearl, Mississippi; two daughters, Claire Elizabeth Booker South of Blossom, Texas and Allison Ann Booker Yelverton of Demopolis, Alabama; five grandsons, Christopher Alan Booker, Cole Demarest Booker, Jacob Andrews Hand, Cory Andrews Hand, and Cameron Andrew South; and a special friend, Faye Posey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Anne Holberg Booker; his parents, Otis Allen Booker and Lola Mae Rawson Booker; three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Booker was a graduate of Meridian High School, Meridian Junior College (MCC), the University of Southern Mississippi, and the Mississippi Bankers Association School of Banking at the University of Mississippi.
He was a banker in central Mississippi and central Alabama for over 46 years, holding positions as senior vice president, executive vice president and president. He was president of a bank in Brandon, Mississippi and one in Butler, Alabama. He retired from banking as executive vice president of Sweet Water State Bank.
He was a big baseball fan, an avid golfer, a genealogist, a historian, a Presbyterian ruling elder, a trustee of Northpoint Presbyterian Church, and currently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Meridian.
Pallbearers are Chris Booker, Cole Booker, Jake Hand, Cory Hand, Cameron South and Ford Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Morris McNair, Phil Snow, Don McNair, Mary Jane Loftin, Hookey Massey, Larry Reynolds, Leslie Goodwin, Faye Posey, Stratton Lewis, Olen Kerby, his high school friends and golf mates.
The family ask that any memorials be made to the Lauderdale County Department of Archives and History or a charity of your choice.
