Graveside services for Charles Boyd Matlock will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Mississippi Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Newton, with Bro. Marty Wilson officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Matlock, age 74, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mr. Matlock was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. He served in the U.S Army and is a Vietnam Veteran. During his service he received the Purple Heart Medal, The Air Medal W/V Device & 10th Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 2 O/S Service Bar, and Expert(Rifle M-14). Charlie was employed with Colonial Pipeline as a pipeline mechanical technician for 40 years, retiring in 2003.
Survivors include his son, Jacob Matlock, and wife, Kristin Matlock; grandson, Aiden Reiter; brothers Lamar Matlock and Walter Matlock; sisters, Bettye Burkes and Brenda Hopper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Whittle "Pete" Matlock; mother, Lessye Lee Matlock; brother, George Matlock; sister, Mary Lou Matlock and grandson, Mason Hawke Matlock.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at 1235 South Clark Street, Arlington, VA 22202.
Pallbearers will be Josh Harrison, Seth Cumbie, Dillon Cleckler, Paul Mann, Josh Hopkins, and Jay Peacock.
