Rodrick "Rod"'s Story
Funeral services for Mr. Rodrick ONeil Hitt will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Wade Ricks and Dr. David Sellers officiating. A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, at Collinsville First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Hitt, age 80, of Collinsville, died peacefully Wednesday, August 16, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Rod was born February 3, 1937 in Meridian, MS. He worked for Smith Bakery for 42 years where he ran a route and served as route supervisor. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville where he served as a deacon. He was a charter member of the Collinsville Lions Club and an honorary member of the Collinsville Hunting Club. He enjoyed volunteering for Builders for Christ, Habitat for Humanity and World Changers. Rod enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and sharing them with his neighbors.
Mr. Hitt, was survived by his wife of 62 years, Mitt Hitt of Collinsville and his two children, Connie Joyner (Gary) of Collinsville, Craig Hitt (Jan) of Collinsville, foster daughter Charlene Scott (Jerry) of Brandon, MS and sister Carolyn Culpepper (Arnold), brothers-in-law Gary Mayatt (Nettie),Tom Mayatt (Mona), sisters-in-law Johnnie Howle, Jeffrey Mayatt and Nell Mayatt. Mr. Hitt is also survived by his three grandchildren, Blair Landwehr, Ginny Clair Hitt and Shelby Hitt Lofton (Jackie) along with one great-grandchild John Sterling Landwehr and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sally and Elmer Ray Hitt.
Pallbearers will be Danny Luke, Kyron Crenshaw,Randy Walker, Chris Keene, Jamie Elam, Scottie Mayatt, Shayne Mayatt, Robert Dulaney and Joe Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Collinsville Piggly Wiggly Breakfast Group.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Baptist Church of Collinsville Building Fund. P.O. Box 70, Collinsville, MS 39325.
Visitation will be at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home August 18 from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m.
