Graveside services for Sara Grantham Strange will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper County, with Rev. Chuck Overby officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Strange, age 87, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at her residence.
Ms. Strange was a graduate of Enterprise High School and Rush Hospital School of Nursing. Sara worked as a nurse for 45 years at Riley Hospital and Flynt Clinic. She taught Sunday school at State Boulevard Baptist Church and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Sara was a loving mother, grandmother, and a special great-grandmother to all of her children. She was her familys prayer warrior and taught her children the Christian values of love and caring service to others. Sara loved nature, especially flowers and birds.
Survivors include her children, Fonda Rush and husband, Jim, Geneva Strange, and Shelba Strange and fiancée, Shawn Craynon; grandchildren, J.C. Rush, Sarai Clark and husband, Kerry, Elliott Rush and wife, Heather, Gabe Smith, Dawn Smith, Daniel Smith and wife, Micki, and Grant Inman; great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Clark, Jack Rush, Zoe Rush, Keeleigh Rush, Lillie Rush, Jordie Smith, Riley Pearce, Darwin Smith, Wilder Smith, and Devin Bashen; Sisters, Lillian Boutwell and Marie Hollingsworth Kea; Sisters-in-law, Eva Janelle Hinton and Juanice Dean; brother-in-law, Red Strange and wife, Danielle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Leroy Strange, Jr.; parents, Bro. John and Velma Grantham; brothers, Jerome Grantham and wife, Ceola, James Grantham, Calvin Grantham; sister Bertha Mae Robinson; sisters-in-law, Melese Strange Carpenter and husband, Ken; brothers-in-law, Butch Strange, Steven Dean, and Hubert Hollingsworth.
The family request memorials be made to Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her great-grandsons.
