Graveside services for Mr. Charles R. Godwin will be held Monday, January 23rd at 1pm at Meridian Memorial Park. Rev. Richard Williams will be officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Godwin, 92, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at Bedford Care of Meridian.

Mr. Godwin served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from GM&O and Illinois Central Gulf railroads.

Mr. Godwin was a long time member of East End United Methodist Church and Druid Hills United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son Michael Godwin (Diane) of Louisville; grandson Lane Godwin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his parents William and Natie Godwin; wife of 67 years Mertha Jackson Godwin; brothers Louie, Evan and Willie Godwin and sister Ethel Godwin.

Pallbearers will be Lane Godwin, Eric James, Marlon Sparks, Joe Jackson, Charles James, Rick Chambers, Michael Jackson and Tony James. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald James, Gerry Godwin and Larry Godwin.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Bedford Care of Marion and Jennifer James for the care they provided to Mr. Godwin.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to Druid Hill United Methodist Church.
