Charlie Edward "C.E." Butler Obituary
Services for Charlie "C.E." Butler will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Raymond Leake officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Butler 89, of Atlanta, Ga., died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Northside Forsyth Hospital in Atlanta. He was retired from Bell South Telephone Company, an ex- POW WWII and served in Belgium, Germany, Battle of the Bulge and the German Death March. Mr. Butler was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian. He was a past city of Meridian councilman, member of the American Cancer Association, Lauderdale County Farm Bureau, AT&T Pioneers and a Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his daughter, Jan H. Reynolds; grandchildren, Chuck "Charles" Thornhill and his wife, Lisa, of Atlanta, Missy Thornhill-Jay and her husband, Dennis, of Meridian and Alan Holcomb of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Matthew Thornhill of Fort Stewart, Ga., and Kelly Thornhill of Atlanta; brother, Tommy Joe Butler and his wife, Eloise Jay, of Meridian; sister, Ruth Loper and her husband, Bobby, of Gulfport; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jean (Eugenia) Bounds Butler; daughter, Sylvia Thornhill; sons-in-law, Wayne Thornhill and Vee Reynolds; five brothers and sisters; parents, Charlie E. Butler Sr. and Effie Boswell Butler. The family requests that memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Meridian. Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Randall Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Michael Johnson, Chuck Thornhill, Alan Holcomb, Matt Thornhill and Randy Evans.
