Funeral services for Evelyn Reeves McNair will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Union with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery.
Evelyn Reeves McNair left her earthy home to be with her Heavenly Father Sunday, December 11, 2016. Mama Evelyn, as her family so lovingly called her, was 103 and four months as she would proudly tell everyone. Evelyn was born in rural Newton County, August 7, 1913. She married Banks McNair November 26, 1932. They farmed and she ran a small store then later moved to Union, Mississippi where she kept books for Stephen's Funeral Home. They had three children.
Evelyn loved the Lord first. She loved her family, church and others. Evelyn was the most unselfish person her family has known. She never uttered a negative word about anyone, but instead prayed for everyone and every need she knew. She was a prayer warrior! Evelyn's daughter and granddaughter-in-law often commented that she had to be the most perfect human God had ever created.
Evelyn was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed doing things for her family. She cooked for all 40 of her family at Thanksgiving and Christmas until she was 96 years of age.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Hiram and Ina Reeves; six siblings; her husband, Banks McNair; her sons, James Harold McNair and Charles McNair; grandsons, Randy McNair and Kevin Jones; and son-in-law, Doyle Jones.
Evelyn is survived by one sister, Mavis Thrash; son; daughter-in-law, Betty Joyce; daughter, Ollie Faye Jones; and daughter-in-law, Linda McNair Hayward (Dennis); grandchildren, Debbie Wright (Mike), Barry McNair (Melody), Tim McNair (Melodi), Chris Jones (Tracy), Craig Jones (Vickie), Jennifer Higginbotham (Bobby), Jason McNair (Peyton); 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her sweet spirit and loving smile touched all who met her. She taught us how to live and has now taught us how to die. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Union, PO Box 129, Union, MS 39365.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. prior to service at the church. Visit online register at www.stephensfuneralunion.com.
