Services for Everett Eugene Springfield will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at York United Methodist Church in York, AL. Leon Ballard, John Evangelista and Teresa Severs will be officiating the services. Burial will be at Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba, Alabama.

Mr. Springfield, 80, of York, AL died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Rush Foundation Hospital. Everett Springfield was born May 22, 1936 in Gordo, AL. He attended Sumter County High School. He worked several years in York at a local gas company, where he obtained his love for rebuilding trucks and tractors. He went to work as a pipe fitter at American Can/James River Naheola Mill for 36 years. His true passion in life was farming. He enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, and tinkering with tractors. He loved spending time with family. Many knew him as "Mr. E" but to his kids and grandkids he was daddy and paw paw. He will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Jean Springfield; son, Michael Eugene Springfield (Liz) of York, Al.; daughter, Melissa Ann Acton (Robert) of Meridian, Ms.; daughter, Jennifer Springfield Goodwin (E.W.) of Lauderdale, Ms.; grandson, Chance Tucker of Meridian, Ms.; grandson, Hunter Thornton of Lauderdale, Ms.; grandson, Michael Thornton of Lauderdale, Ms.; grandson Justin Coffman (Hailey) of Collinsville, Ms.; granddaughter, Gena Springfield of York, Al.; granddaughter, Crystal Acton of Meridian, Ms,; granddaughter, Jessica Massey (Davey) of Meridian, Ms,; granddaughter, Jallena Roberts (Matt) of Powell, Tn.; granddaughter/Buddy, Molly Jean Goodwin of Lauderdale, Ms.; great-grandson, Grayson Springfield of York, Al.; great-grandson, Braden Massey of Meridian, Ms.; great-grandson, Brooks Massey of Meridian, Ms.; brother and sister-in-law, Larry & Glory Jacks of Huntsville, Al.; sister-in-law, Joyce Springfield of Livingston, Al.; brother-in-law, John Browning of Ralph, Al.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ozie Springfield; daughter, Melanie Sue Thornton; daughter, Melinda Lou Coffman; brother, Emmit Springfield; and sister, Dorothy Browning.

Pallbearers will be Chance Tucker, Hunter Thornton, Michael Thornton, E.W. Goodwin, Billy "Red" Watts, and Andrew Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Coffman, Oliver Barrett, Buddy Ward and the men of the York United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Bumpers Funeral Home of York is in charge of the arrangements. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind.
