YORK, Ala. [ndash] Funeral services for Gladys Brewer Roberts, 92, of Pensacola, Florida and formerly of York, Alabama will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Bumpers Funeral Home in York. Graveside will follow at the York Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Roberts passed away on August 22, 2016. She was born on March 2, 1924 in Langsdale Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayward B. Roberts Sr.; her parents, Henry Chester and Jane Elizabeth Brewer; her brothers, Earl Brewer and James Brewer; and her sister, Mary Beatrice "Bea" Loeb.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her son, Colonel (Ret.) Hayward B. Roberts Jr. (Sonja) of Pensacola, Florida; two granddaughters, Julie Elizabeth Roberts Miller (Lee) stationed in Stuttgart Germany and Janie Amanda Roberts in school Paris, France; and two great- grandchildren, Cassie Miller and Carson Hayward Miller.

Mrs. Roberts, also known as "Miss Gladys" and named "Omie" by her grandchildren resided in York, Alabama for much of her adult life. She along with her husband moved to York after WWII and established York Saw Company. After his death in 1959, she continued to be part owner for many years. In 1965, she moved to the University of Alabama and was the house mother for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. She then moved back to York and was the Dietician for Hill Hospital and the Sumter County Nursing Home. Upon retirement, she moved to live with her son and became a full time "Omie" to help raise her two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Johnny Bell, Mr. William H. "Bill" Ross, Mr. Bill Elrod, Dr. Sam Webb, Mr. Robert Loeb, Mr. Chester Brewer, Mr. Buddy Ward, Mr. Jimmy Robinson and Mr. Johnny Roberts.
