Jessie Oredith Anderson
Jessie Oredith "Rita" Anderson, 95, of the Meehan Community, died peacefully at home on Feb. 15, 2020, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Rita was a much-loved member of her community, where she was fondly referred to as the "Mayor of Meehan." She was strong, tough, independent, hardheaded, sassy, determined and funny, and loved her family fiercely. She talked a big talk but had a heart of gold. She loved working in her yard and thrived on being on the riding mower mulching leaves. She worked at J.C. Penney for many years as a sales associate and credit manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. (Bill) Anderson; her parents Roy Alsup and Cleo Alsup, and her brother K.D. Alsup.
Survivors include her sons, Michael (Faye) Anderson of Hickory and Pat (Kathy) Anderson of Meehan; grandchildren: David (Erin) Anderson of North Augusta, S.C., Emily (Scott) Mosley of Hickory, and Richard Anderson of Meridian; great-grandchildren Autumn Mosley, Caroline Mosley, and Mary Elizabeth Anderson; sisters Coleene Vincent and Barbara Giles; sister-in-law Ouida Alsup; and numerous nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Gideons International.
