MARION [ndash] John Broach Harvey Jr. known to many as "Prince" passed away on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at the age of 82.
John was a native of Marion, Miss. and lived in the family house there for the entirety of his life. His parents were John Broach Harvey Sr. and Hazel Denton Harvey. John attended Meridian High School and was an officer of the national high school fraternity Theta Kappa Omega. He was a United States Army veteran.
John was keenly interested in Mississippi history and became a self-taught expert on 19th century life in East Mississippi, corresponding with scholars in the field. He was also a very skilled poker player and played the game at a high level all his life, in venues ranging from Gardena, California in the 1960s to Las Vegas in the 1970s, and for many years at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Neshoba County.
Predeceased by his loving companion of nearly a half century, Yolanda Maria-Theresa Miguez, known familiarly as Felicia.
Survived by his daughter, Heather Nichole Harvey; his son, David Turner, and grandchildren: Morgan, Emily, Luke, Bethany, and Noah, in whom he took great pride.
