Funeral services for Mr. John Lewis Agnew will be Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at 2 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Jeff Hancock and Tim Buchanan will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamrick Cemetery in Collinsville. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Agnew, 71, of Collinsville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky.
John (Johnny) was born in 1948 to Benjamin Agnew and Louise Agnew Bradley. He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Carpenter Agnew, in 1966, celebrating 53 years together this past January.
John was a 1966 graduate of West Lauderdale High School. He began a 42-year career with AT&T in 1966, retiring in 2008 as a Computer Specialist, out of the Jackson office.
Johnny was known as quiet and kind. He lived a life of integrity and was honorable in the eyes of his community, his family, and his many close friends. Johnny enjoyed spending time on his tractor, working in his shop, and spending time with family. He also enjoyed driving/going on car-runs for New South Ford. To his children and grandchildren, he could "fix anything," and would help anyone who had a need. He spent most mornings surveying the traffic, and enjoying conversation with the unofficial Collinsville Coffee Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne; children, David W. Agnew (Michelle), Chief Master Sgt. John Lewis Agnew III (Paula), Gayla Buchanan (Tim), Leia Hill (Adrian), and niece, Susan Carmichael (Fredie): grandchildren, Rachelle Vissman (Josh), Briana Agnew, Morgan Agnew, C.J. Riley, Patrick Riley, Ben Agnew, Kaitlyn Agnew, Logan Agnew, Hannah Buchanan, Madelyn Buchanan, Noah Buchanan, Carpenter Hill, Brooks Hill, and Anna Lauryn Hill; great-niece and nephews, Ariel Eaves, Fredie Carmichael III, and Colin Carmichael; great-grandchildren, Eli Vissman and Luke Vissman; and his mother, Louise Agnew Bradley. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Agnew is preceded in death by his father, Ben Agnew, and stepfather, Doug Bradley.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Scarbrough, Bud Wimberly, Mike Reid, Randy Walker, Rick Walker, Max Vance, Davey Walker, and Luke Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephew, Scott Carpenter, and his friends from the Collinsville Coffee Club.
The family requests that memorials be made to The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
