Sarasota, Florida - Jerry Lane Busbee transitioned to Heaven on August 22, 2025. The reunion with his wife, infant son, and countless other loved ones, was no doubt glorious.
We that remain celebrate his life of incredible obedience and steadfast service. As we mourn the loss of his presence with us, we also thank God for an eternity we will share together.
Lane Busbee was a man of many talents and titles. Beloved son, brother, husband, father, GP, dedicated pastor and friend, respected coach, skilled tradesman and business owner.
Born January 6, 1947, he spent his young life in Meridian, MS with his mother and father; Wes and Pauline Busbee, and was the sixth of nine children; Wes, Rush, Sherry, Kent, Mark, Lane, Philip, Robin and Jeannine.
He learned many valuable trades working with his father and brothers in construction. They built homes, apartments and churches in Meridian and surrounding areas. He also began training in church pastoral ministry alongside his father.
In his young adult life he married Gail Pace, who would be his wife for 41 years until her passing. He served in the physical education department at St. Patrick's School, and was known and loved by many students as Coach Busbee. Lane became Assistant Pastor of the Church of Jesus Name under his father's leadership. During these years, Lane and Gail added three children to their family; Jerry Lane Jr., Heather and Natalie.
Lane's father-in-law, Savell Pace, taught him the trade and the business of fence construction. He worked alongside Mr. Pace until his passing in 1986. At that time Lane and Gail took over as owner-operators of the American Fence Company and continued in business until retirement.
Most famously known as Brother Lane, he was ordained to Christian ministry in 1969 and faithfully served as church pastor for 50 years. He began to transition into retirement at Christ Community Church in 2019.
It's impossible to know how many people heard the good news of Jesus Christ throughout Lane's ministry on this earth. So many lives were changed and generations were blessed because of his dedication to step into the pulpit every week. He continued to support the church leadership until he moved with his family to Southwest Florida in 2022.
His final three years were spent enjoying membership at The Tabernacle Church in Sarasota, FL and spending time with friends and family; Daughters, Heather Busbee Pass and Natalie Busbee Myers, son-in-law, Shane Pass, mother-in-law, Myrtle Pace Helmly, and his four grandchildren, Lanie Beth Myers, Mallorie Myers, Hallie Pass and Judah Pass.
He loved seeing the kids play in the neighborhood, going to the beach, watching college football, reading his books, bird watching with his binoculars, and taking walks around the pond with his grand-dog Bama.
In these last years together, we as a family began the discussion of legacy. We revisited many beautiful things about Dad's years in church ministry. We also talked in depth about the challenges that come with the high calling of service to others.
In recent years we felt the Lord calling us, as a family, to work toward facilitating rest for those in ministry. To begin this work, we established Gilgal, and had begun the early planning phase.
The name Gilgal was chosen because of its Biblical significance as a place of rest. This was the name of the first encampment of the Israelites as they crossed into the Promised Land.
