Malyn Avera Speed Obituary

Malyn Avera Speed, 93, went home to be with the Lord on July 5, 2024.

She was born to Luke and Mertie Ann (Fuller) Avera on October 28, 1930, in Clarke County, Mississippi. She was a retired employee of Superstop.

Malyn enjoyed traveling the country with family and friends from her beloved church, Faith Baptist. She loved gospel music, especially The Inspirations, whom she saw in concert countless times! She even hosted them in her home many times for meals when they were nearby. She loved gardening and maintaining a beautiful yard. All who knew her considered her a great cook and a person who expected only the best in herself and others.

Malyn is survived by her sister, Ina Jewel Davidson (James); her brother, Wiley Avera (Janelle); her sister-in-law, Jean Avera; along with a host of nieces and nephews, LaNeta Avera Henson (Wayne), Crystal Avera McLemore, Douglas Mathis (Faye), Faye Mathis Williams (Larry), Janice Mathis Taylor, Amelia Mathis, Rose Marie Davidson McLaughlin, Alan Davidson (Ann), Penny Davidson Kimrey (Phil), Grace Avera Allore, Julie Avera Quinn (Brian), Susan Avera Fortuna (Tony), Darlene Skinner, Steve Avera (Amanda), Brenda Avera Bloch (Todd), and Wanda Avera Underwood (Robby).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of more than 56 years, Robert Earl Speed; her brothers, Cleitus Avera, Luther Wayne Avera, James Elton Avera; and her sisters, Oleane Mathis and Merita Jones.

Pallbearers for Malyn's service will be Alan Davidson, Wayne Henson, Phil Kimrey, Todd Bloch, Robby Underwood, and Larry Williams.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown, from 10 am until 12 pm. Funeral Ceremonies will begin at 12 pm with Rev. Steve Avera officiating the services. Malyn will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Antioch Cemetery in Clarke County, Mississippi.

The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown is grateful for the opportunity to honor Malyn's life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
