Nell Jones Vaughan, 86, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at her home in Livingston. Born on August 28, 1929 as Nell Maxwell Jones in Selma, the oldest of four children, she grew up in Pleasant Hill and attended grammar school there.

She attended Carlowville High School and graduated from Parrish High School in Selma. Attended Judson College in Marion and graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham with a Bachelor of Religious Education. She graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, with a Masters in Religious Education. She also graduated from Livingston University (now UWA) with a Masters in Elementary Education.

She worked at the Georgia State Baptist Association in Atlanta, Georgia, was the Director of Youth Ministry at Istrouma Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was the director of the Baptist Student Union at Livingston University. She also taught the 4th grade at Sumter Academy for 20 years, and is well known and loved to many in Sumter County.

While in Livingston she met her husband of 52 years, Ed Vaughan. They were married on June 23, 1963 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. They had one daughter, Susan Harnish. She has been an active member of Livingston First Baptist Church for many years, and was very devout. She loved to travel and to spend time with loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed; and her brother, Billy.

She is survived by her sister and brother, Grace Middleton and George Jones; her daughter, Susan Harnish; son-in-law, Bill Harnish; her four granddaughters Emily Hall, Cara Hall, Kelsey Harnish and Brenna Harnish; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Monday, June 13, from 6-8pm, at Bumpers Funeral Home in York. Funeral will be Tuesday, June 14 at 10am at Livingston First Baptist Church.
