Nilanne Floyd Young
Nilanne, a lifelong resident of Meridian, departed this earthly life August 10, 2019. She was 71 years of age. She graduated Meridian High School, class of 1965, and attended Meridian Junior College, until her marriage to Ralph, late that year.
In 1983, she was very instrumental in convincing and helping her husband, Ralph, to set up, finance and establish their General Contracting business, Ralph E. Young Contractor, Inc., from which, they both retired twenty-five years later. She also helped with the management of their residential rental operation for many years.
Nilanne spent about ten years as the principal caregiver to her grandmother, mother and mother-in-law. She also spent many hours helping and visiting friends she made, whom were in the nursing home with her mother and mother-in-law. All this contributed to her many years battle with depression. At one time, Nilanne stated, that she had no friends, that they had all been in the nursing home, and that they had all died.
She built an addition on to her home, in which to move her dad, to prevent him from having to go through the nursing home experience. She prepared meals, attended him, but even with great sitters, had to answer call 24/7, for seven more years. With all these experiences and responsibilities, Nilanne said, that she would not have changed a thing, that it was all worth it and very satisfying to know she had done her best.
Nilanne's brother, Charles, Jr., when she was about two years old, called her "Angel". She fit that description to many people throughout her life. She was bedside, when her grandmother, mother and dad left this life. She was certainly an Angel to her husband, Ralph.
Nilanne did have the one Best Friend of her life, her "across the road" neighbor, Beckie Grice... Thanks Be To God!!! Nilanne's last months seemed to be lived for Beckie's almost daily visits.
Nilanne was a lifelong Episcopalian, member first at St. Paul's and later at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, in Meridian.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ralph E. Young; two sons, Richard and his wife, Alison Jenkins Young, of Daleville, MS, and Benjamin and his wife, Angie Hardy Young, of Tupelo, MS; two grandchildren, Madelyn and Jackson Young, of Tupelo, MS; brother, Rev. Canon Dr. Charles K. Floyd, Jr., and his wife, Rev. Dr. Helen W. Tester, of Oconomowoc, WI, former Rector of the Mediator; sister-in-law, June Young Strait, of Brandon, MS; one uncle, Johnny Floyd, of Natchez, MS; several nieces, nephews, many special cousins and great nieces/nephews. Also, by her adoring little Havanese dog, Breesy, who at the end of the day, understood it all, and comforted and consoled her so much to her last minutes.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mable Walston Floyd and her dad, Charles Kamper Floyd, Sr.
