Pauline Covington Merrell
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline "Pud" Covington Merrell will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Meridian with the Revs. Dr. Raymon Leake and Dr. Nathan VanHorn officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Merrell, 93, of Meridian, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Merrell was born in Memphis, Tenn., and attended Mrs. Hutchinson's School for Girls. She went on to attend the University of Mississippi. While at Ole Miss she was a member of the Chi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She met her husband, Arthur "Sonny" Merrell, while at Ole Miss and they were married in 1947, at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tenn. Following their marriage, they returned to Sonny's hometown of Meridian to raise a home and family where they resided together for 63 years until his passing. Pud was an active member of First Baptist Church of Meridian, The Junior Auxiliary, The Heritage Literary Club, The Ole Bridge Club, The Town and Country Garden Club, and The WMU.
Pud is survived by daughters, Jean Merrell (Joseph White), and Helen Webb (David); grandchildren, Cole Webb, Ben Webb (Julie), and Joseph Merrell-White; great-grandchildren, Amy Webb, Ariel Webb, and Helen Webb; niece, Caroline Sinclair; sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Nelson, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Pud is preceded in death by husband, Arthur "Sonny" Merrell; parents, Richard and Pauline Covington; sisters, Claire Covington Draper, and Jean Covington Sinclair.
The family suggests memorials be made as donations to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
