Meridian - Riley Moore Garrett Jr. 90, of Meridian, Miss., passed away peacefully on Feb. 25, 2022, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1931, to Riley Moore Garrett Sr. and Cleo (Johnson) Garrett in Meridian, Miss.
Riley is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret (Hill) Garrett; son, Riley M. (Jennifer) Garrett, III; daughter, Olivia Bosarge; grandsons: Matthew (Vanessa) Henderson and Evan Garrett; and granddaughters: Megan Henderson and Caroline Garrett.
Riley loved his family as well as his church family. He was in the furniture business for 45 years and was the owner of Garrett Furniture Store and Crawford Furniture Store. He had a passion for flying as well as singing. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Marion, where he also served as a deacon. He also served as a Gideon for many years.
Pallbearers will be Milton Jenkins, Kevin Null, Jason Davis, Glynn Wedgeworth, Evan Garrett, Matthew Henderson, and Honorary Pallbearer, David Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Moore Garrett Sr., Cleo (Johnson) Garrett, and his sister, Dorothy Smith.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Compassus and to the caregivers who all provided such great and loving care to Riley in his final days.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022, beginning one hour prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church of Marion.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Marion, with Rev. Jack Kern and Rev. Kyle Naylor officiating.
Burial will take place following the service in the Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Meridian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made in Riley's honor to your charity of choice.
